Telephone Triage Registered Nurse – The Telephone Triage RN ensures patients and other customers receive quality and efficient clinical service and facilitates a seamless patient experience between office visits. Answer triage phone calls in a courteous, professional, and timely manner. Provide friendly and empathetic telephone service to patients, their families or other healthcare workers. Answer medical questions, address concerns, and discuss symptoms with prompt resolution. Appropriately triage calls and elevate concerns or questions to the provider as needed. Facilitate appointment scheduling as required. Follow and adhere to established policies and procedures. Document all patient interactions clearly and concisely in the EMR. Update patient information (demographic, medication, history) in the EMR as necessary. Adhere to prescribed service levels and goals to provide efficient service to patients. Provide patient education as needed. Inform patients of test results per Virginia Heart protocol. Serve as a resuscitative team member in emergency situations in the office setting. Upon successful completion of the Prescription Refill Authorization Competency Exam, authorize prescription refills under direct supervision of the provider. Upon successful completion of the Anticoagulation Management Competency Exam, perform anticoagulation therapy management. Requirements Successful completion of a Registered Nurse program. Current Virginia State Registered Nurse License in good standing or valid Compact State License authorized to work in Virginia. Ability to commit to a full‑time position. Minimum 2–3 years of clinical experience in the management of cardiac patients preferred. Preferred experience in a triage call center setting. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills. Strong ability to work independently and to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment. Prior experience with an Electronic Health Record (EHR); EPIC preferred. Must successfully pass the prescription refill authorization, anticoagulation management, and triage competency exams prior to working independently.
