Mechanical Engineering Co-op/Intern – Fall 2026

This job description reflects potential openings for the Fall 2026 Co-op/Internship Session (August - December). This is a general job description and represents multiple openings in various departments. Honda offers both single and multi-semester co-ops and internships. College students must apply to the requisition pertaining to their major and semester of interest.

The below descriptions reflect potential environments and duties within our various Mechanical Engineering Co-op/Intern positions that we offer. Work environments and projects may include but are not limited to:

  • Manufacturing
    • Focus on equipment, process, quality and new model activities related to the department of placement (i.e Assembly department, Weld department, Paint department, Stamping department, Casting and Machining department, etc)
    • Project management
    • Problem analysis
    • Investigating new technologies and implementing countermeasures
    • Quality
    • Learning and performing vehicle testing
    • Conducting tests for chassis, brakes, controls, bonnet, trunk and/ or door systems
    • Testing procedures and fixtures
    • New model development, drawing, layouts and design change requests
    • Investigating and providing countermeasures for mass production design related issues
    • Warranty data trend analysis
    • Re-creating problem failures to determine root cause, develop countermeasures and perform confirmation testing.
  • Purchasing
    • Assessing supplier process capabilities
    • Problem reporting and analysis.
    • Implementing countermeasures
    • Verifying and judging effectiveness
    • Investigating suspect part issues and approving part changes
    • Approving and verifying supplier countermeasures
    • Issuing trouble reports
    • Various daily tasks such as attending meetings, working on assigned project activities, problem analysis, writing technical reports, troubleshooting manufacturing or quality problems and communicating to internal/ external customers.
  • Facilities
    • Updating and documenting Computer-Aided Design (CAD) drawings of existing infrastructure
    • Analyzing and designing existing sanitation, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and building pressure systems
    • Developing short and long-term solutions to problems found
    • Designing modifications of existing facilities infrastructures
    • Updating mechanical engineering specifications and standards
    • Reviewing electrical drawings
    • Learning and understanding plant power infrastructure
    • Verifying electrical panel schedules
    • Updating high bay light locations
  • Tooling Equipment
    • Designing manufacturing equipment and tooling in 2D and 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) systems
    • Determining equipment electrical hardware, software (Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI), etc.), safety requirements and appropriate design
    • Managing a schedule and tracking daily processes
    • Investigating and troubleshooting problems during installation and manufacturing
  • Research and Design
    • Supporting the development of vehicle testing and countermeasure analysis (assisting with problem and data analysis, countermeasures, test set-up, data acquisition, test monitoring, recording activities, performance testing and reporting results)
    • Assisting design engineers in developing/ designing of future models and supporting the creation of drawings
    • Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
    • Attending meetings and working with various design/ test groups, suppliers, manufacturing groups, etc.
What You Need to Be Successful in This Role

Required:

  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • General Engineering Coursework
  • Minimum 2.5 Cumulative GPA or higher (You will be required to provide your current transcript)
  • Class status- Sophomore (by credit hour) or above
  • Availability to work a minimum of 10 weeks at 40 hours per week.
  • Enrollment in a bachelor's or master's degree program studying Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License (exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis)
  • Ability to provide own transportation to and from work each day.

Desired: AutoCAD, Computer-Aided Three-Dimensional Interactive Application (CATIA), Manufacturing related coursework.

  • Greensburg, Indiana (55 minutes southeast of Indianapolis, Indiana and 60 minutes northwest of Cincinnati, Ohio)
  • Lincoln, Alabama (45 minutes northeast of Birmingham, Alabama)
  • Marysville, Ohio (45 minutes northwest of Columbus, Ohio)
  • Russells Point, Ohio (30 minutes northwest of Marysville, Ohio)
  • Anna, Ohio (45 minutes north of Dayton, Ohio)

Housing Accommodations: Honda offers housing at a shared cost, or a housing stipend based on location for our Co-ops and Interns. It is not required to opt-in to but is available should you need housing at the time of your Co-op/Internship with Honda.

Mentorship: Each Co-op/Intern is assigned a mentor in your department to help you navigate your time at Honda.

On-site Wellness Center: Co-ops and Interns have access to join our Wellness Centers (varies by location). Our Wellness Centers are full gyms equipped with cardio machines, weights, basketball courts, pools, dieticians, personal trainers and group fitness classes.

Paid overtime: Co-ops and Interns will receive 1.5 times their hourly rate of pay for any overtime worked.

Hourly Wage Range: $27.22-$35.22

Pay will be based on several variables that include, but not limited to, geographic location, work experience, education, etc.
