Job Description

Description The Chaplain Specialist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. The Chaplain Specialist provides spiritual care services to patients, patient family members and friends, and staff, especially in relation to his/her own faith group. Responsibilities Provides spiritual care to patients and families through direct visitation and through consultation with staff caring for patients. Conducts spiritual assessments, provides appropriate evidence based interventions, identifies and provides spiritual care for patients who might be at risk for spiritual distress. Provides supportive care to staff include one on one support as well as group debriefings, the Care Cart and educational events. Serves as resource to staff regarding religious and spiritual issues and perspectives in relation to clinical issues and decisions. Appropriately documents all patient encounters in the medical record. Officiates at memorial services, worship services, and other functions of the hospital. Serves as resource to patients and staff regarding advanced directives and ethical issues. Engages in continuing professional education and development programs. Follows established policies, procedures, and standard of care. Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to adapt to the needs and changes of Spiritual Care and of Northwestern Medicine. Engages in continuing quality management as part of Spiritual Care. Participates in system and hospital-wide quality management initiatives. Provides data and reports to support the Spiritual Care department scorecard and assists in the analysis of data as needed. Brings cases with legal, risk management, or ethical implications to the attention of a manager in an expedient manner. Partners with CPE faculty in CPE curriculum development for residents and interns. Qualifications Required Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Master's level degree in Theology/Divinity or a related field. One Unit of ACPE Certified CPE.
