Position Summary


Roosevelt University seeks an Academic Advisor to meet with students and prospective students and provide accurate, current curricular information on undergraduate programs; assist in short-term and long-term academic program planning; refer students to other support services / units on campus; provide assistance with program changes, class registration and career planning; assist in recruitment and retention efforts which progresses our students toward graduation.


This is a hybrid position with three days (minimum) required at the Chicago campus and up to two days remote each week. Some evening and weekend hours will be required.


This is a full-time, exempt position located on the Chicago campus. This position reports to the Director of Academic Advising.

The salary for this position is $50,000 annually.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • A bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in a college environment working within student development or academic advising.
  • Ability to use computerized student information systems and personal computing software.
  • Proven ability to perform assigned administrative duties focused on supporting our advising, recruitment, and retention efforts.
  • Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships.
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to service excellence by embodying Roosevelt's core values, mission, and vision in every aspect of the role working with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • A positive and professional demeanor is a must.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree preferred and 1 year of experience.
  • Familiarity with Ellucian/Banner preferred.

Working Conditions


Normal climate-controlled office environment is provided. Job is largely sedentary, but there is a need to move about the office and buildings frequently. Occasional bending, stooping, lifting, pushing and/or pulling is required (typically less than 10 pounds of weight or pressure). Regular use of desktop computer is required, calling for frequent hand/wrist movement and repetition. Moderate level of stress. Occasional travel within the local or regional setting may be required.

Duty and Responsibility
  • Provide accurate, current curricular information to students and prospective students on undergraduate programs in individual and group settings; assist in short-term and long-term academic program planning; provide information to faculty, staff, parents and others through workshops, pre-orientations, and information sessions.
  • Provide academic advising to specialized populations of students as deemed necessary.

  • Serve as liaison, establish and develop effective relationships, create goals and plans for assessing goals with students, faculty, departmental heads, deans, and others, both on-and off-campus.
  • Lead and support strategic academic advising initiatives aimed at enhancing student success for special populations, including student-athletes and students utilizing military benefits.
  • Collaborate on the review, management, and continuous improvement of advising office web content and digital resources to ensure accessibility and relevance.

  • Complete additional administrative duties, including preparation of reports on advisees and development of advising training materials, and supports faculty and staff in responding to student questions or issues.
